Just a quick one-mile walk down the W&OD bike path to VIVA VIENNA!
Every year our little town puts on a street fair. The name VIVA Vienna is a play on its name: VIenna VA. Several blocks of Church Street are blocked off, along with a couple of side streets, and the vendors come out in droves. There are two music stages set up and a small children’s stage, where I had to watch the magician perform (occupational hazard). On a fourth stage, in the parking lot of Caffe Amouri, is the Vienna Idol competition, mixed with demonstrations of the Vienna Dance Academy–maybe something else, but I didn’t hang around for everything. Plenty of food and rides for the kids, plus dozens of other booths offering just about everything. The soon-to-be-opened Bard’s Books (Vienna’s new independent bookstore) had a pop-up book shop set up in front of their future storefront.
We watched a fantastic young singer and her band from Colorado followed by a demonstration of Classical Latin Guitar Fusion. Lunch at Chase the Submarine and coffee (Susan had tea) at Caffe Amouri.
On Sunday this year, we were treated to rain, but as you can see from the picture below, it didn’t cause everyone to run home. Monday was perfect, and Saturday was pretty good, too.
